31 julho 2024

» Vodafone Rally de Portugal confirmed in the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) 2025 calendar from May 15-18.

» The Portuguese event is the fifth on the 2025 WRC calendar. It's the largest season since 2008, featuring 14 rallies across 4 continents.

» The championship will be contested on ice, snow, gravel, asphalt, and desert surfaces.

The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) has just confirmed the Vodafone Rally de Portugal on the 2025 FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) calendar. Organized by the Automóvel Club de Portugal, the event will take place from May 15-18, marking the fifth rally in a 14-event season, which includes debuts in the Canary Islands (Spain), Paraguay, and Saudi Arabia.

“Once again, the importance of the Vodafone Rally de Portugal in the World Rally Championship is reaffirmed. It is undoubtedly one of the most iconic rallies in the WRC, with the most passionate fans and unique stages, spanning two major regions of the country. The collective effort to keep the rally in Portugal, shared by municipalities and communities along the route, is also evident”, commented Carlos Barbosa, President of the Automóvel Club de Portugal. It should be noted that the Vodafone Rally de Portugal also has a confirmed spot in the 2026 WRC, as per the contract signed with the championship promoter during this year's event.

After the traditional start in Monte Carlo at the end of January, the WRC will traverse Africa, Asia, Europe, and South America before reaching Saudi Arabia at the end of November, marking the largest world championship calendar since 2008.

The first three rounds of 2025 follow a similar format to 2024, with Umeå set to host the Rally Sweden in February, while the Safari Rally Kenya takes place in March. The Canary Islands stages are ready to host the WRC for the first time, also marking the championship's return to Spain.

Hundreds of thousands of fans will flock to northern and central Portugal in May for the iconic Vodafone Rally de Portugal, before the championship makes its second island stop of the year, returning to Sardinia (Italy) in June.

Another rally returning to its traditional date in June is the EKO Acropolis Rally of Greece, leading into the WRC’s high-speed summer in Europe, with rallies in Estonia and Finland.

From northern Europe, the WRC travels across the globe for its debut in Paraguay at the end of August, followed two weeks later by the Rally Chile Bio Bío.

Remaining on the calendar for the third consecutive year, the Central European Rally once again takes drivers to the asphalt stages of Austria, Czech Republic, and Germany, with autumn conditions in Europe adding a unique touch to the event.

Leaving European soil, the WRC heads to Japan in November for the last asphalt rally of the year, before the season concludes with a debut in Saudi Arabia – where each of the three days of competition will feature a different terrain.

"It's an exciting calendar that perfectly blends traditional WRC rallies with three new and thrilling challenges, two of which are outside Europe, showcasing once again the global appeal of our championship", commented Jona Siebel, Managing Director of WRC Promoter.

"From the ice in the French Alps, knee-deep snow in Sweden, dense dust in Kenya and Sardinia, high-speed gravel rollercoasters in Finland and Estonia, to the desert in Saudi Arabia – the variety we're offering in 2025 is unparalleled."
